Abstract:Objective To investigate secondary metabolites with antagonistic activity against Staphylococcus epidermidis from Streptomyces sp. FXJ1.088. Methods The fermentation broth and mycelium were separated by silica gel column chromatography, dextran gel column chromatography, and high performance liquid chromatography. Compounds were identified by mass spectrometry, nuclear magnetic resonance, and infrared spectroscopy. Antimicrobial bioactivities (MICs) were measured by the double dilution method. Results Five compounds were isolated from the fermentation broth and mycelium of Streptomyces sp. FXJ1.088. By comparing with literature data, their structures were identified as: Antibiotic WS 1627C(A), antibiotic WS 1627A(B), epihygromycin (C), hygromycin A (D), and copiamycin (E). Conclusion Five compounds were obtained from the fermentation broth and mycelium of Streptomyces sp. FXJ1.088. All five compounds showed inhibitory activity against multi-drug resistant S. epidermidis, wherein the MICs of compounds A~ E were 100, 100, 25, 25, and 100~200μg/mL, respectively.
